Great visit with Calla, Association Patrimonies de Nevez and peace and quiet in Kerdruc!
What a quick trip that was with Calla, but we are grateful for it! She flew from D.C. with her French friend, Laetitia and Laetitia's New York City friend Caitlin. The two friends ran a half marathon at Euro Disney and Calla was lucky to be able to spend two nights with Laetitia's family in Paris, where she did some great exploring on her own. We then drove to Nantes to pick up Calla from the new high speed train from Paris and had a nice time exploring Nantes and a beautiful town of Clisson before Laetitia joined us for lunch at La Cigale and then a trip to Guerande (of sea salt fame) and finally to Kerdruc. After one night in Kerdruc and lunch in Concarneau Ville Close, Laetitia returned to her parents in Paris. Then we drove to Melun which is near the two chateaus that we visited: Vaux le Vicomte and Fontainbleau. Lots of stairs and walking but beautiful weather and beautiful sights ending on the evening before Calla's flight home, at Vaux le Vicomte with 2,000 candles lighting up the inside of the chateau and in the gardens….what a great end to a great vacation!
Following Calla's departure from Charles DeGalle, we drove to Caen where we visited the WWII museum, the seaside town of Ouistreham, and Caen's old town. Fun!
Now that we are back in Kerdruc, we have sadly seen the return of many neighbors to Paris and Abu Dhabi, after a long summer. Luckily, we have the Martins and Izumi's family to keep us happy. We have tutored Izumi's son, Akira, who is 18 and getting ready for the "bac" in order to get into University….he is a very intelligent, talented young man. His English is amazingly good for someone having lived in Okinawa, France and New Zealand among other places…..multilingual! We also have French class to look forward to in mid November. We enjoyed a very interesting time with our new friends of the "Heritage Association" with 2 tours.
