March and the promise of Spring????
We're planning our trip to Stockholm next month with Calla and it has not been an easy chore! In addition to the sky high prices, there are complicated ferry schedules, car rental availability and flight schedules to figure out….but we are looking forward to being away from the rainy weather we have had for what seems like 6 months! And to see our daughter who has been working very hard in her "new/old" job.
Tom was in the Telegramme newspaper again…this time with the patrimony group of Nevez. Here is the photo of the people present (I was still recovering from the flu). They mostly discussed the work being done on the 12th century tidal mill at Henan.
On March 17th, our neighbors Gabby and Ginny celebrated the housewarming of their gite business. The photo is the pendraison de crémaillère (house warming) provided by our landlord. The hook and pot were found in our 1850's house during the renovation about 20 years ago.

A housewarming party is called a pendaison de crémaillère, literally "hanging of the chimney hook". The expression comes from medieval times. When the construction of the house was finished, it was customary to invite all those who participated in its building to eat dinner as a vote of thanks. The food was prepared in a large pot, the temperature of which was controlled by a chimney hook, which could adjust the pot so it sat higher or lower over the fireplace. This hook was the last thing to be installed in the new house, marking the beginning of the thank you meal.
Here are some photos of our trip to Dinan in October to visit French friends Betty Jane and Lôic. We had dinner with our mutual British friends Sally and Tim who also live in Dinan. The two couples met at Jambalaya and found they live just a few miles away from each other. Lots of fun!!!! Also visited the north shore of Cap Fréhel with Betty Jane.
