Thanksgiving in France
We hope you and yours had a wonderful, relaxing Thanksgiving!
We had a wonderful Thanksgiving in France thanks to our good friends John, Chris, Jim and Michelle. We had invited the two bachelor neighbors but they did not come...... We cooked most of the day and found that turkey tastes different in France...
We ordered a fresh! turkey from our butcher in the Intermarche in Nevez. We knew it would cost a lot of money, but we had not seen whole turkeys in the stores yet....must be a Christmas item as there are plenty then. The turkey was from a farm across the Aven River from us...in Moëlan-sur-Mer. It was very large, but definitely not a hefty American type turkey. We cooked it with sage which we were not able to find fresh, but our neighbor Jim came to the rescue! We fixed stuffing from scratch and also had yams with marshmallow topping (from the American section of the Casino store). We had green beans, brussel sprouts, and of course lots of mashed potatoes. Everything was good but did not taste the same as in the U.S.
We had a wonderful, relaxing evening and we have lots of turkey in our freezer to eat for weeks to come.
We forgot to take a photo of the turkey when it was done, but did take one of it before...with the head on it....but we won't show it as it is not very appetizing! So here is a photo of the veggie turkey that we tried to make....fun
