Living in a foreign country is not always easy, but it's always interesting!
Another outing on Sunday brought us some new experiences. We had read about some Christmas Markets in the area and wanted to also attend a choral concert in Quimperle. So after driving around Rosporden looking for some signs of life, we went into the cultural center where there were 3 women who answered our questions. No, they didn't know of a Christmas market, but knew there were some in the vicinity....not Rosporden.
So we went on to Quimperle on the back road which we had never seen before and saw lots of beautiful green rolling hills. Very different from our coastal area. When we got to Quimperle, we went to the first of the "l'eglise paroissiale" (there are two) and there was no one there. That church has been under construction for over 2 years! Then we went down to the other church which is from the 11th century, and no one was there either. Tom stopped some nice people to ask if they knew where to find the concert....showing them the clipping from the paper. They knew we were English speakers right away.....and one lady said...he is English....her husband. He had a hard time switching to English but it was fun trying to find out if they knew what to do. The lady then said the people in the boulangerie might know and started walking a half block up the street....we followed her and she asked someone and they didn't know either! She was so helpful and sweet and it was nice to meet such nice, helpful people.
So, we walked around the old town and stopped at an exhibit of art on 4 x 6 cards....very interesting, but we didn't see one that we thought we needed for 30 euros! We did, however, get to see the inside of the Archer's House, which is from the 16h century! http://www.minube.net/place/maison-des-arches-the-house-of-the-archers--a63718
So we went back home through Pont Aven and saw that the town was all abuzz with lots of galleries and shops open.....at 5:00 p.m. on a Sunday! Next time we'll visit our local tourist information offices before wandering out on our own! It was a nice, but very confusing day!
