Fun evening in Tregunc
Who would have known the excitement we experienced on Saturday night at the Choral Concert in Tregunc...the second closest town to us. The concert started at 9 p.m. and ended at 11:30....a late night for us, but it was an evening to remember.
There were 2 choirs, the Fisherman's choir (La Bordee) and the "Gospel" choir (Voices Influence Gospel). We found out about the concert in our French class. Our instructor had been the choir director for years but had just stepped down. His wife had back surgery, so he was not there. Mostly French songs, but a few in English. Many were shanties, work songs. The sound was outstanding and the men in the choir were very energetic and fun. When the first choir ended, the second Gospel choir performed...many English or American hymns such as Amazing Grace, Jericho, and O Happy Day. We can now see why English is so hard to pronounce....."O appy day" was hard for them...now we feel less self conscious of our pronunciation.
At the end of the concert, the Fisherman's choir joined the Gospel choir on stage and what a sound that was! They were so great! What an exciting, uplifting evening. We had not expected that the French could be so animated! There were about 200 people in attendance and the cost was 8 euros....what an experience! That sounds oustanding! (pun intended) The French missing "h" sound causes problems in Norwegian, too. "Have a good weekend" is "God helg". Our French boss used to say "God elg", which means "Have a good moose". They bought him a T-shirt with a moose on it and the words "God elg"!
