Fresh Seafood!
| Low, low tide today |
Well, sorta fresh!
We were taking trash and recycle out at the port this morning and as we were taking photos of the LOW TIDE.....we saw the fishing boat Loup des Mers come in (see boat at far left middle with skip being loaded). We watched them unload their day's catch and Claudine and Henri drove up after being out and told us we could probably buy the fish there. Claudine was ready to buy fish, but the owner said he didn't have a scale and we needed to go to the stall in Trevingnon to buy the fish at 2:30 p.m. It was great to have Claudine there to explain everything in English as we have been at the port before when people bought fish from other boats and did not know how it worked. Apparently, some boats call customers when they are getting into port.
We got to Trevingnon shortly after 2:30 and saw Claudine and Henri walking back with their purchases. They showed us what they had bought and then Claudine went with us to show us which stall belonged to the Loup des Mers (there were two vendors). We bought 1/4 kilo of small shrimp, a flounder (sole) and a spider crab (see below). All were alive and the shrimp were very frisky! We boiled the shrimp and ate them with horseradish and ketchup. Then we ate the boiled crab with melted butter.....we will fix the flounder tomorrow as they said the flounder needs to rest at least one day or it will be tough! We'll use left over crab to stuff it. Fresh doesn't adequately describe the feast of shrimp and crab! So, what an experience in our neighborhood! Thanks to Claudine for helping us feel more comfortable in Kerdruc!
