Another fun day in France....
I'm not sure of what I'm writing because the lens popped out of my glasses last night and this morning I found it, but the wire rim actually is broken! So I found my previous pair (probably 10 years old) and oh....can't see very well.....another fun adventure in our future, joyeux Noël Shirley....but on with our trip to Concarneau yesterday to buy a new I Phone for Tom and get my phone put on the monthly bill. We started out early for us...9:30 and arrived at the Orange store by 10. We waited about 15 minutes to be helped and the girl we had previously dealt with was not there, so another girl who spoke fair English helped us....gave us the details of what the phone would cost with each forfait (package) we got. So....after much thinking, we got the middle forfait and the phone. She said for my phone, it would be 1 euro a month...but for Tom....WOW! Expensive phone...joyeux Noël Tom! So another hour goes by and he gets ready to pay for the phone with his debit card and it is rejected....2nd trip to the bank this morning...first one was to get our banking information for the transaction...we did not bring our checkbook. Found out from the nice banker who helped us before that instead of being able to use the debit card for 15,000 euros a month, it is actually 1,500 euros....and we were over...even though we had money in the bank!!!! So, the banker gave us what looked like a gift card...after he put money on it from our account he walked over to the ATM machine with us and Voila....cash came out. He gave us an envelope to put the money in and we walked back to the Orange store and bought the phone! Another half hour and Tom was the new owner of a very expensive I Phone 5...but at least we don't have to pay another 200 euros to get a GPS for our car.....
Then to celebrate by having lunch out....went to an inexpensive Chinese buffet. It was o.k., just a lot of fried food. There was raw meat that you could take to the Wok person to have cooked and then later there was sushi. We had lots to eat and then went to the L'eclerc Cultural store to exchange the new computer charger that stopped working yesterday.....After another 45 minutes of waiting and talking to 2 people, we think we have another one ordered from Quimper which should be there by vendredi (Friday)...so back to Concarneau then. Then, very strange....two French men who were at the Chinese restaurant came into the store and looked at Kindles and things.....they were so odd looking...scruffy and their clothes had some holes in them....they were in their 60's and the owner of the restaurant had gone to their table to explain that the raw meat that one of them had put on his plate was supposed to be cooked at the Wok station....maybe he was going to eat it raw????
Then home where Tom was downloading a newer version of something on his new phone and the SIM number he put in did not work.....3 tries and then he needed another code...and if that doesn't work after 10 tries, you have to buy a new SIM card!!!!! So off to Concarneau tomorrow again! Oh...also found out later that my phone can't be added to the monthly bill for 1 euro....mistake.....Time for another glass of Spanish wine....1.99 euros bottle......
