Remembrance Day Parade and Speech 11/11/12
A wonderful, sunny, albeit chilly morning walking with Lynne to the cemetery to meet up with the veterans marching from the town hall. John stayed at home to build Lynne a raised planting bed...she has won medals in her neighborhood in England....we will see how her new garden transforms! There were about 30 people in the procession, mostly elderly and many veterans of WWII apparently, and possibly one from the Afghan war. The Maire (Mayor) of Nevez led the march and then gave a wonderful speech (in French of course) and lead a 2 minute period of silence at 11:11 a.m. The Gendarme played a recording the La Marseillaise...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laWIjgWDesE&feature=fvwrel . Then the mayor and another man (maybe another dignitary) laid a beautiful wreath and then they all walked back to the town hall. Very moving and we are so grateful to be in France and be able to be a part of every day life in our town! (We'd love to have a copy of the Mayor's speech as we only caught a few words....) Thank you Lynne for finding out about this great event and thank you for letting us sign the memorial poppy that you left under the potted plant (above the wreath)!
