Beware of pickpockets on the RER train to CDG!
The good news is that we are fine. Tom's wallet was stolen without his knowing it by pickpockets on the train to the airport. Only about 50 euros lost, in addition to driver's license, 3 credit cards, 2 debit cards, and insurance cards. We were told by the RER people to go to the National Police to report the loss. Lucky for us, French banks issue 2 different debit cards with a shared checking account, so we are not without money. Lucky for us, we were not catching a flight and had 3 hours before our train left for Brittany. The National Police were so helpful in getting our debit and credit cards stopped. They said we were the second report of the day and it was only 10 a.m. The other person was also an American traveling in the Gare du Nord to CDG. The bank needs the police report in case the debit card was used (the report is 7 pages long). Lucky for us, all cards in Europe need a pin number in order to process any charges so we think everything is safe. Another adventure and hard lesson learned, but we are so very LUCKY!
The good news is that Calla is safely at home in DC and she enjoyed her 10 day visit with us. We had such a great time and of course, miss her more now!
