Bisous from Kerdruc
On the way back, Tom took a detour to the oyster farmer behind our house who is open part of each week — we keep missing him. But it is Christmas, and oysters are a favorite this time of year, so he has special hours. He met the young owner and bought a dozen oysters, after discussing the best ones for the season. That was a half dozen Belon plates (flats) and a half dozen creuses (concaves). He had a wonderful location with the beds in the Aven River below and his facility on a small bluff above commanding a magnificent view out to the Atlantic Ocean. More properly, it is the Bay of Biscay or the Baie de Gascogne — the Bay of the Basques.
Lynne and John had a little soirée this evening with champagne and "nibbles" at their house. The champagne was, of course, from the Champagne region of France! Oh la la! Very good! The nibbles lasted four hours and we had conversations in French and English..mostly French as the neighbors were French...Edith and François.
We were all a little surprised, as we understood that the French would come just a little late and stay for only a drink or two — forty five minutes at the most. We forget that what we read about the French applies mostly to France. And we live in Brittany, which is so different in many ways. They are delightful and we had a wonderful time at Lynne and John's newly renovated house...they have come such a long way! The house looks great after so much hard work! Here is a photo of everyone!
