Paris, ("La Ville-Lumière") the City of Light! .....and crowds, noise and smokers....
Now in Paris and it is romantic and wonderful! Lots of people out shopping and enjoying the awesome display of Christmas lights!
We forgot to bring the camera cord for my camera, so we'll post more photos when we get back to Kerdruc on Tuesday....but in the meantime, I'll write about our trip to Paris on the train and some of the fun things we've seen here.
On Sunday we boarded the TGV in Rosporden near our house early after the sun came up. We could not find our seats as a group of 8 people were sitting in them and we finally were asked by one of them what our seat numbers were...in perfect English as she heard us talking. She said they took our seats so they all could sit together...we were definitely fine with it and sat behind them in their seats...then another two men sat across from us and they were talking to the 8 group and all had something in common.... After a while, Calla and I realized that they were probably on their way for a gay marriage rally in Paris...which we didn't know was that very day. I had seen on TV the news about other parades that were not going well....many very angry, anti-gay people! We enjoyed our 4 1/2 hour trip because these 10 people were so delightful and laughed the entire trip! They were playing some kind of charades or something that had to do with naming movies and actors. One guy kept saying the answer was either Tom Cruise, Chubaka, Sandra Bullock or Justin Beiber and everyone would laugh! At the end of the trip, the girl who asked about our seats came up and gave us cookies and asked us if we knew what was going on in Paris on Sunday...we said we thought we did....and yes, it was the gay marriage rally that they were going to be in and represent Quimper where they all were from. We asked her how she spoke such great English and she had been a doctoral student studying English at Michigan State Univ. 4 years ago. When Bush was re-elected, she had to return to France before she finished her dissertation....and could not get a job because she was overqualified....and was recovering from a brain injury...so she must have been fine on a disability income. She was a very happy and interesting person as were the others! We said goodbye and wished them "bonne chance" and we all said it would be cool if we ran into each other again in Paris or in Quimper...fun making such interesting friends. We think the parade went well because there was nothing on the TV or in the newspapers to the contrary.
Tonight we had a delicious dinner with our wonderful Parisian friends, Benoit and Aude at the Plomb du Cantal. Forgot to take a photo of all of us, (sorry Anne and Henry), but next time we promise....and they want to visit us in Kerdruc in the Spring!
