Finally a bit of cooling rain....and delightful light dinner outside

After weeks of constant sunshine and temps in the upper 80's and 90's, we had some good dark clouds that produced a bit of rain and thunder last evening.  Our French conversation class with Anne was at 6 p.m. and we shared some things to eat....we made the things on the left of the photo and Anne, her daughter and 2 granddaughters, made the platter on the right!  Sandwiches of freshly caught crab, salmon, avocado, and some other yummy things.  The girls loved the rabbit faced deviled eggs and loved the olive penguins, but had never eaten black olives, and didn't like them.  We also made the endive with walnuts, honey and chèvre which they all loved but had never tasted before ...later we had puffed pastry filled with sausage fresh from the oven!  Then dessert of watermelon, cherries and strawberries.  We had an awesome time chatting in mostly French and learning lots from the girls and their mom.  The kids are leaving today for Paris and will be back in August where we will have them and their Dad at our house for another evening of snacks!  Fun!!!!!

Below is a photo of the French alternative to wooden fences, barbed wire and plastic.....they build up these berms and then usually cover them with black plastic and plant shrubs or even trees which will keep them in place for centuries!

Also, Tom became an extra good citizen this week by giving blood (Don du Sang) at the Salle de Fete in Nevez!  It might not be the multi-gallons like in the US, but one unit down in his new home!  Bravo Tom!
